The Sourcing Team Apprentice takes on new role as supply assistant!

The Sourcing Team are delighted that Sadie Norfolk our Apprentice has now successfully completed her level three qualification. Sadie joined us in September 2011 and she has shown wonderful drive and enthusiasm and the apprentice scheme has proved highly beneficial for us as an SME and of course, for Sadie in gaining her qualifications along with real hands on experience & skills. We are delighted to be able to confirm that Sadie is now a full time member of the team taking on her new full time role as Supply Assistant working in our Buying Team.

We went to an external ATA who made the process simple and cost effective for the business – SLB managed all employment contracts along with managing all the training requirement. I would strongly recommend the process to any SME – going via the ATA is a far simpler and cost effective process.

Julie Harries – Head of Business Skills – South London Business quoted “Sadie totally understood the apprenticeship and all that it could offer her and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Sadie had a great attitude and work ethic from the start, was a model apprentice and progressed through both the intermediate and advanced apprenticeships. We wish Sadie all the best in her career, she is an asset to any company”.

We will be investigating taking on our next apprentice in the coming months and wish Sadie every success as part of The Sourcing Team.

The Sourcing Team service feedback

Say it with cakes - great customer service
My fab team had their monthly leadership lunch yesterday and Debbie had a great idea for sharing the customer feedback from January and February but making cakes with the key words iced on top! A brilliant idea that really brought it to life with a bit of fun and yumminess!

New bpma research reveals interesting insights into consumers’ reactions to adverting media

The bpma commissioned research 2013, carried out by Michaela Mora of Relevant Insights LLC an independent research company.

A link is provided to download the report. My own thoughts about the survey, as someone who specialises in sourcing and creating bespoke premiums and promotional products is that there are lots of elements that tick all the right boxes for using promotional products within your marketing campaign.

The results are an interesting read and an important consideration when deciding how to use our limited marketing budgets. Today we are limited on what we have to spend so it’s critical to ensure we get the best return on our investment in everything we do. As with everything there is not one solution that fits all and I for one, love the range of marketing disciplines which work independently, but can be so much more powerful when linking the campaign with a promotional product.

It is surprising to see such low response or recognition to direct mail – but, are we talking about the “standard envelope” direct mail or a clever thought out DM campaign? With something in the envelope which entices you to open it? We are involved with lots of campaigns that have a product in the envelope – for example a bespoke ice cube tray (many years ago) for a VW DM piece – the agency won a gold award at the DMA – it was a brilliant piece of DM that delivered brilliant results. So isn’t it about the overall creativity in the campaign that makes it memorable? Interestingly, we recently briefed a design company on a project and within the discussion I referred to the VW tray – instantly he remembered the campaign landing on his desk – clearly I was delighted! DM has changed massively but it does still have its place enhanced by an incentive to open the envelope!

Running a TV campaign which is supported by a shopper marketing campaign can hugely increase the retention to the brand and message. For example launching a new product which is supported by in store activity, say for example product tasting – with the shopper team in fully branded garments with great POS material, these quickly attract attention and certainly increase retention. Making it creative and fun is all part of the overall shopper experience and memory recall.

There is so much noise going on everywhere – our built in filters are cutting much of it out, so being able to grab attention for a split second is tough! But it is still possible across all media through a great piece of creative.

My frustration over my many years in promotional products is that it, like all the above, there needs careful thought, finding that right incentive for the right message for the brand and target market is a skill. There is nothing worse than being sent or given a promotional product that is tasteless, meaningless and irrelevant!

I am delighted in the bpma research because it does reinforce the strength of using a promotional product in your campaign. We are privileged to work with some amazing corporate clients and our agency partners working together to create meaningful, exciting and relevant campaigns linking with all the other media helping to bring it all to life.

*There is also some interesting US Research provided by PPAI comparing the different media.

The Sourcing Team – Finalists in bpma Distributor Catalogue Cover of the Year 2012!

The Sourcing Team - Finalist 2012 bpma Distributor Catalogue Cover of the year

The bpma held its annual Christmas lunch at the Guoman Tower Hotel in London on Friday 14th December, in attendance were some of the industry’s top names. This annual event is our major annual fund raising event and this year’s chosen charity was Lifelites, a charity that provides fun and educational technology for children in all the children’s hospices in the UK. A remarkable £5850 was raised through our charity raffle and auction on the day. The Sourcing Team were delighted for the second year in a row to be nominated for Catalogue Cover of the year – sadly, we didn’t take first place this year – but it’s great to be nominated out of the 100′s of companies in our association.

Well done Kevin for raising over £700 for Movember with your Creative campaign!

Movember fund raising from Kevin at The Sourcing Team

The Movember fundraising campaign runs every November and involves growing and getting your moustache sponsored. The aim is to help fight prostate and testicular cancer in men and raise general awareness of these awful diseases. It is a world wide campaign and the largest of its kind in the world.

I decided to participate after a friend was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier in the year and have run a campaign that has raised over £700 so far. Its been a lot of fun and I kept everyone entertained and engaged with a daily picture of me and my tashe through email or Facebook- such as in the attached – and received donations from as far as Australia, Canada and Spain. As anyone who has lived with a potentially life threatening condition knows it’s the support you get from your friends and family that matters as much as the medical help you get from the professionals and the support shown has been outstanding. I offered to dye it pink if the fund went over £300 which it quickly did so watch for The Sourcing Team Pink Tashe on the next blog! Kevin

Week 2 of the mo .. You can see how it’s progressing below …just starting to itch a little ..
Many thanks to all who have so generously donated or pledged a donation but please if you haven’t if you could find the time to donate just a few pounds to this cause I would be bowled over as every little helps.
In addition to the funding for prostate and testicular cancer Movember also fund work helping to reach out to depressed young men who shockingly have one of the highest suicide rates in the country !

WEConnect International 2012

This year’s WEConnect International Conference was held in association with RBS with some fantastic presentations from IBM, CIPS, Merck, Sharpe & Dohme, Aston Business School, The Coca-Cola Company, Accenture and the University of East London. Key themes included global collaboration, women’s economic empowerment – sharing of some great insights and research findings. For me it reinforced the need to continue to grow and learn as a business – keep reinventing yourself to keep up to date and relevant! It also reminded me about the positive role women have in the workplace and how we need to help inspire the next generation of young women to achieve their ambitions and fulfil their entrepreneurial potential. A really inspiring day which left me with a long list of actions for The Sourcing Team!

Oh yes, and the little wake up session run by Susan – from VivaLiveMusic.co.uk – was brilliant fun!

Showcasing Disability in the Workplace

Last month I attended an event organised by Diversity Works for London (www.diversityworksforlondon.com) at City Hall which showcased employers who actively attract and recruit disabled people. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the benefits of employing disabled people and the help that is available to achieve this. A range of truly inspiring speakers, many with a disability, demonstrated the positives and strengths of disabled workers along with a demonstration of some of the go ahead technology that can be utilised within the work place to aid various disabilities and guide companies through the whole recruitment/retention process. A variety of recruitment agencies were also on hand to provide advice on all aspects of employing disabled staff.

It proved to be an interesting and informative afternoon which certainly achieved its objective of guiding employers towards the benefits of a more inclusive workforce. I look forward to future events with interest.
