Promotional merchandise can deliver higher or equal ROI than most forms of advertising!

New statistics show conclusive link between promotional merchandise, branding and sales!

Key findings:

• Promotional merchandise can deliver a higher or equal ROI than most forms of advertising

• 66% of respondents said they could remember the brand on the promotional product they received during the last year

• 79% said they were likely to do business with the company in the future

• 8 out of 10 (84 per cent) respondents said that a branded promotional gift increases brand awareness

• Over three quarters (87 per cent) of recipients said they kept a promotional gift for longer than 12 months

• Over half (56 per cent) of respondents said their opinion of the brand/company was more favourable after receiving the promotional product

The first ever in-depth independent national survey into the power of promotional merchandise in the UK questioned businessmen and women about their behavioural trends and preferences for different promotional gifts.

One of the most significant findings of the survey is that promotional merchandise can deliver a higher ROI than radio and outdoor advertising and a ROI that is equal to TV and print advertising. The cost per impression for a mug is £0.001, a mid-range pen £0.001, a calendar £0.004, a USB stick £0.005 and an umbrella £0.003. With an average cost per impression of £0.003, these figures compare extremely favourably with the cost per impression of other media with TV coming in at £0.008, radio at £0.003 and advertising hoardings at £0.003.

The survey also examined how much the respondents opinion changed after receiving a promotional item, giving a measure of how such products can affect feelings, perceptions and buying activity. Over half (56 per cent) of respondents said they felt more favourable towards the brand/company. When asked how much more or less likely they were to do business with the company in the future after receiving the promotional item over three-quarters (79 per cent) said they were more likely. While over four-fifths (84 per cent) of respondents stated that a branded promotional gift increases awareness of the brand, 63 per cent of respondents said they preferred to receive a promotional gift with logo branding on and 37 per cent indicated that they prefer to receive an unbranded gift. Nearly half (45 per cent) of people surveyed would most like to receive a USB stick, while 39 per cent would like a pen, 39 per cent an electrical item and 36 per cent a mug. The reasons for these choices are clear, as when asked what types of promotional gift they found most useful 21% stated a USB stick, 11 per cent an electrical item and 10% a writing instrument.

18 per cent of respondents stated that they had kept a mug for the longest period of time, 15 per cent a USB stick and 12 per cent a pen, with around one-third (33 per cent) indicating they had kept an item for between one and two years and 30 per cent between three and four years, highlighting that around 87 per cent of recipients had kept a promotional item for longer than 12 months.

The impact of promotional merchandise on the recipient is shown by the items that respondents remember receiving in the last 12 months, with 44 per cent recalling receiving a pen, 34 per cent a mug and 31 per cent a calendar, with USB sticks and stationery coming in at 22 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.

The Sourcing Team’s Macmillan Coffee Morning with a “twist” was a wonderful success, raising £2,207.00 for the charity!

Wow! What we can say? A massive ‘thank you’ to everyone, those who made an on line donation, those who generously donated prizes for the event and everyone who attended on the day to make it a day to remember! A very special thanks to Mete & Wayne from OneLife, a charity helping communities across the UK – who supported us on the day, showing our guests how to mix up their music and how to DJ! A massive thank you to my wonderful team here at The Sourcing Team – they put in so much hard work and fully embraced the event .. making me very proud of them on the big day! And special thank you also to Stevie Greenslade for giving up his day off to be our man on the door!

We had a great day here at the office, with all sorts of ways for people to spend their money – from raffles to guess the number of jelly beans to making music with our guest DJs! Interestingly guess the baby (with now and then photos of the team) proved more difficult than we thought!

The weather was perfect, the cakes delicious and the lunchtime BBQ was incredibly well attended!
As you know, all on line donators plus those that made a donation on the door were entered into our free prize draw. The winners of that draw and the other prizes from the day are listed below.

Some of the quotes from the day!
Emma Robinson – Macmillan Cancer Support – “I just want to say thank you again for the coffee morning. It was really fantastic and the money raised can go a really long way to helping people affected by cancer. It was a really fun day”

Oliver Hickson – Hickson Communications – “it was a really good day, a great opportunity to meet like-minded people for such a good cause, and we were very lucky with the weather and had a lovely BBQ – probably the last one of the year!”

Nichola Cain – Voice Communications – “Wow what an event The Sourcing Team put on to raise money for MacMillan. I drove a couple of hours to be part of the day and am so pleased I did. The whole team got behind the day, put on a fantastic number of initiatives to raise funds and made everyone feel welcome. The cakes the team baked and the BBQ were delicious. To top it all off the weather was perfect. Well done to The Sourcing Team – thanks so much for including me in such a special and unique day.”

Dean Clark – Turpin Barker Armstrong – “….On behalf of myself and my colleagues, we would like to express our thanks to everyone at The Sourcing Team/Macmillan for a thoroughly enjoyable day. Right from the moment we first arrived, we were made to feel very welcome and the format of the day was excellent, with emphasis placed on just having fun. We especially enjoyed ‘ditching the suits’ and playing at being the next big DJ’s to be discovered, as we mixed our own CD’s. (A big thanks to the guys at Dance Aid, they were fantastic, and at least ‘pretended’ to like the music mixes put together by us amateurs). We were happy to be part of the day and to help in raising funds for this very worthwhile charity. – See you all next year (if invited of course !!!!)”

Andrew Hill – Senator Pens – “Many congratulations to The Sourcing Team for a superb open day fund-raiser for Macmillan. Not only did TST give up a full trading day, but they created a fun and interactive environment where all the invited attendees found themselves getting totally involved. I really enjoyed contributing to such a worthy cause in such a positive atmosphere…..and the superb weather really was the icing on the (Macmillan) cake….”

Paul Mclellan – bpma – “I had a fantastic time at the Sourcing Team’s Macmillan Coffee Morning…. /Day/Evening! – Gill’s Team were fantastic hosts and for them to raise over £2k for Macmillan was fabulous.”

Gordon Glenister – bpma – “What a great event. Well done to the Sourcing Team for bringing together industry people and clients and for a great worthy cause. I was delighted the team raised over £2k.”

WEConnect Conference 2011

WEConnect ran a number of fantastic events last week; Meet the Corporate Member – The Marriott Hotel, the WEConnect International Awards for Europe – hosted by Ernst & Young – wonderful venue, hospitality and networking evening.

And of course, the conference! Again a wonderful venue – held a Clifford Chance’s building in Canary Wharf with a stunning view across London from the 30th Floor. A really excellent mix of WEB’s and corporates. The speakers were all inspiring, Amanda Burton – Clifford Chance – giving some really good tips about what buyers look for and her charming story about the women chained to railings! Fay Sharpe – Zibrand – wow – great presentation, full of drive and passion, sharing lots of great ideas about the brand and team building. There was a Dragons Den – excellent panel and, such brave WEB’s! Hats off to them all – brilliant!

Met some really interesting people and linked up with some really exciting corporates too. So thanks to everyone for a great job on the event and Shirley Cooper will be wonderful as the new Executive Director Europe.

Mother & son bake for the team!

Well we wanted to make something a bit fun, so James and I decided to make some gingerbread people and make one for all the team … I only had self-raising flour although recipe did specify plain .. I convinced James it would be fine. When he opened the oven to take them out he shouted “We’ve got fat gingerbread people!!” Okay, I don’t mind admitting I was wrong! Off to the shop for plain floor and we made a new batch .. creating a much slimmer team!

James bless him spent hours decorating all the office characters – very cute and tasted great!

I decided to make a little cake that promised to add on the pounds – I don’t mind saying myself it was gorgeous. I did manage to break my Kenwood whisks .. don’t ask how – anyway thank goodness these spares are on line so they are ordered ready for this week’s cake making for the event!

Laurens Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake!

I usually refuse to make cakes, as by the time they are out the oven I am tempted to dive right in… but as it is for a good cause I decided to challenge myself with this delicious cheesecake. I have chosen the name “Cardiac Cheesecake”, so be warned, this isn’t for the faint hearted! Move over Nigella!!!

Child’s play at making cakes …!

After all the delicious offerings in recent weeks it was back to classic cup cakes when Matt and Sharon hit the kitchen.

Light as a feather sponge topped with fluffy butter icing. Matt went for the classic Sourcing Team pink whilst Sharon couldn’t resist  at least a little chocolate by adding  a  Malteser top.

Simple but tasty they went down a treat!
